Gianna Lynn is an ambitious woman wrapped in an INCREDIBLY hot package. Born in the Phillipines, she's got the exotic looks you would expect from a pacific islander and her body is absolutely smokin'! In this interview with XRentDVD's Big D, Gianna Lynn discusses what it was like to work on the big production "Operation Tropical Stormy", breaking the mold of not only peoples' views of your "average" pornstar, but also being typecast as an "asian" title starlet.
Gianna Lynn: I've been working for Wicked for a couple of years now and Stormy is a very talented director. I was just talking to her one day and she told me she thought I'd be perfect for that role. It's an honor to be part of the production, I know it's one of the biggest budgets that Wicked has come up with.
Big D: What was your initial reaction when you auditioned and landed the role?
Gianna Lynn: I wasn't really concerned because the casting was really accomodating. Stormy and I are good friends and everybody was really cool about it, so it wasn't anything to be too intimidated about. Then again, it is one of the biggest acting roles that I've ever played so I wanted to do my best and fulfill my role. I don't think I ever worked harder to get my body in shape for any other movie.
Big D: That's saying something. Mainstream actors and actresses don't necessarily have to maintain body shape like adult film stars do. I'm surprised you had to work extra hard because adult film stars seem to keep their bodies in shape more than their mainstream counterparts.
Gianna Lynn: Haha, yeah cause we're naked!
Big D: What kind of training did you do to "beef up" for this role?
Gianna Lynn: We did some fight training and I've been taking karate classes for a year or so. She had the whole cast work with a professional stunt coordinator and that was one of the ways we trained for this role.
Big D: Does working on this big production give you the itch to work on other similar features? Is there anything else on the horizon now that this has been wrapped up?
Gianna Lynn: I'm always trying to expand my limits and not be complacent, so I'm always looking for more roles. I'm also working on my website and that's my new big project. I want a more "reality" type feel for it, which strays away from acting I know, but that's my baby right now.
Big D: When you say "reality", are you talking like an MTV Cribs type thing where this is how you live and people will be able to see what a day in Gianna's life is like?
Gianna Lynn: I know most people find the porn industry fascinating. They can't understand how somebody can be okay with having sex with random people on camera and it's very intriguing to them. My goal is to show people that we're humans too and we like to do things normal people do (She's saying this while getting her coffee from Starbucks). I want to show them that the stereotypes: drugs, partying, etc... isn't necessarily true.
Big D: How do you go about breaking that mindset?
Gianna Lynn: I just live my life. It's fun to go out once in a while, but there's a big difference between celebrating here and there and going out every night to get drunk. I just like to have a balance in my life, and that's important whether you do porn or not. People tell me all the time that I'm not your typical porn star, which is a compliment since most people think that your typical porn star will just fuck anything that walks and is doped up all the time, which isn't at all true.
Big D: So, I hear you're pretty well versed in Disney folklore. How'd that come about?
Gianna Lynn: I've always liked Disney movies and I loved living in that fantasy world as a kid. I actually learned a lot from my ex-boyfriend's mother who worked for them. Plus I liked to research hidden details about Walt (Disney) and the parks themselves. Like most people don't know about the basketball court at the top of the Matterhorn.
Big D: How do you find the time to do all these things that you're so passionate about?
Gianna Lynn: It's definitely hard to juggle sometimes since it's not your typical 9-5 job. For instance, this month I've travelled a lot, more than I had in previous months. I just got back from a 10 day excursion dancing in Tampa and Denver, then next week I'll be in Sacramento. I'll be in New York next month for a convention, so you just try and make the most of your downtime because it's a valued commodity.
Big D: It seems like blogging has become the en vogue thing for adult film stars. What made you get into that?
Gianna Lynn: I love to write, I always have. Plus I'm a better communicator when it comes to writing. I sometimes stutter with words or have a hard time explaining myself, but when I'm writing something, I have a better choice of words and can edit my thoughts.
Big D: Do you ever feel the pressure of blogging and get writer's block?
Gianna Lynn: Sometimes there's not enough time to write what I want or there is that occasion when I do have writer's block. When that happens, I just wait until I have the inspiration to write something good. Which is funny because I'm kind of a procrastinator, haha. So it can get difficult, not only finding the time, but to be inspired too.
Big D: Switching it up a little, how have you been able to break the mold of not being typecast into every single asian film that comes out of porn valley? Do you actually try to diversify, or is it just whatever jobs come in?
Gianna Lynn: It helps that I have latin blood in me, so I don't look 100% asian. I can have many looks depending on how I do my hair and makeup. As a matter of fact, I have people come up and ask me all the time, "What are you?". I do definitely try and diversify, though. I think that you shouldn't just pinhole yourself because of your heritage, basically strive to branch out.
Big D: Do you turn down jobs so you can keep your resume balanced?
Gianna Lynn: Yes. I've been around this business long enough that I know what kind of roles will benefit me and my career. So I definitely try and present myself as classy as can be, which means I don't paint myself into a corner that I can't get out.
Big D: I notice the body art and I hear you were on an episode of Miami Ink getting one of your tattoos done. What was it like to be featured on one of those shows on regular cable?
Gianna Lynn: Well actually, one of their new artists is a good friend of mine. He did my big dragon piece and that's how I first met him. When he got on the show, he invited me down and introduced me as his friend Gianna, not the pornstar Gianna which I thought was cool. It was great to have the opportunity to be on the show and be part of something mainstream, and it's all due to him.
Big D: So you actually got a tattoo done while being filmed?
Gianna Lynn: Yes. It's an angel on the back of my neck. It was kinda funny, though, because somebody just sent it to me on MySpace and I thought it would look great as a tattoo. It was a little awkward getting a tattoo done on camera and your neck has a lot of sensitive spots. But it was fun!
Big D: Sounds like it. So, I see that you've been nominated for many awards, but haven't taken one home yet. Do you think that "Operation Tropical Stormy" will take you over the top and get you an award?
Gianna Lynn: Well, I think my time will come when I'm ready. I've worked hard and I believe all of my hard work will pay off. Frankly I feel honored to even be nominated for an award and I'm excited to see if I do win one.
